WIM: Startup Program for Women in Tech
TweetWomen in Wireless is proud to announce a partnership with Jumpthru to create a women-based accelerator for innovations related to mobile technology. Applications are being accepted from start-ups with at least one woman-founder or co-founder. The accelerator will offer two to five start-ups free New York office space, mentoring and coaching, access to venture capitalists and other investors in addition to $18,000 in seed funding, $10,000 worth of product development and design support, and $10,000 worth of mobile marketing promotions.

It’s unfortunate that the headline TechCrunch chose for this article spurred so much confusion. The WIM Accelerator was founded to encourage more women entrepreneurs. We actually don’t exclude men from our program. Our requirements are simple: must be a tech company, team must have 1 woman founder and the business has to have a mobile application. We think diverse teams result in stronger companies and we made that part of our criteria. Just like most accelerators require teams with tech-cofounders.
We think the fact that most accelerators are skewed so heavily male, discourages women to apply. Eric Reiss mentioned this issue in his recent TechCrunch article on Racism and Meritocracy. It is our sincere hope that WIM adds our amazing tech community. Happy Holidays!
