WIM’s Success: A PR Case Study

PenVine, the PR agency for Women in Wireless (WiW) and Women Innovate Mobile(WIM), is offering a special promotion to WiW members (and their companies) who need PR support: 50 % off the first month’s billings. Better yet, Penvine will donate a 5 percent cash contribution to the WiW organization if you mention you are a member!

WiW & WIM couldn’t be happier with our PR success, here is our case study:

The Public Relations Launch of Women Innovate Mobile

Women Innovate Mobile joined forces with PenVine for the public relations launch of Women Innovate Mobile.  The objective was very straightforward: generate huge awareness of WIM.  Our strategy was to secure media coverage in major media outlets that reach a large number of people, as well as very strategic outlets that reach the core target audience.

PR is all about storytelling… and WIM has a great story to tell.  We utilized WIM’s founders as the faces and voices of the brand.  Their backgrounds, reputation and experience in the industry definitely positioned WIM as a serious venture and helped pique the interest of the media.  That, coupled with the fact that WIM is a  much needed market first provided a lot of fodder to entice the media.  PenVine worked hard to establish messaging that would resonate with the reporters.  We wove in compelling industry statistics: The rate of startups is at a 15 year-high, yet women represent only 35% of startup business owners; Women oversee approximately 80% of household income, nearly $5 Trillion Dollars annually – and high-tech companies built and run by women are significantly more capital efficient vs. the average; very few resources are dedicated to female entrepreneurs and women are under-represented in existing accelerator programs.  For an added layer of credibility, we included quotes from “third-parties” endorsing WIM, specifically a mentor and an investor.

Prior to issuing the release nationwide, PenVine leveraged its relationships and pitched non-competing exclusives to top-tier media outlets.  We were able to secure interviews and media coverage with The Wall Street Journal and TechCrunch.  It was a juggling act, but we were able to time these stories perfectly to hit just prior to placing the press release on the wire, which then enabled us to throw our net and outreach to additional reporters.  We were able to generate dozens of articles including The Jane Dough, AllThingsD, NPR,  Women 2.0, New York Investment, New York Daily News, Forbes, Technorati, TechNews, and many others.
